SUMMARY OF GROUND-BASED AURORAL ACTIVITY SIGHTINGS
               --------------------------------------------------

(Sightings are preliminary and may be unverified)

2100 UTC - (N42.00 W118.50) - Eugene, Oregon
Comments: I flew from Salt Lake City, UT to Eugene, OR and it was a
beautiful show the entire plane ride. There were beams, curtains,
and growing intensity throughout. The pilot was even excited and
kept saying, these are great - look out the window. Thi is the
first time I have seen this - this far south. It was a treat.

2100 UTC - (N46.50 W121.50) - Winthrop, Washington
Comments: We'd headed out for an evening snowmobile ride & picnic
dinner to Sweetgrass Butte in the North Cascades Mountains Saturday
evening. We'd noticed a slight glow in the northern sky on our
way up, and when we cleared the heavy forest in the valeys below
and emerged on top of the Butte, we were greeted by an incredible,
unobstructed view of the Northern Lights. What a treat! We
watched them for over an hour before heading back down the
mountain, but could still see the faint glow in the northern sky as
           we headed home.

2340 UTC - (N53.25 W114.75) - Calgary
Comments: A truly amazing sight and one that will never be
           forgotten.
