SUMMARY OF GROUND-BASED AURORAL ACTIVITY SIGHTINGS
--------------------------------------------------
(Sightings are preliminary and may be unverified)
0300 UTC - (N58.50 W124.50) - Alaska Highway N. of Dawson Creek BC
Comments: A truck driver, I was driving south on the Alaska Highway
when I noticed small auroral curtains tothe NE of my location. I
eventually stopped and parked on top of a hill that gave me
unobstructed vision 360 degrees. At its peak the display ws
continuous from 270 to 180 degrees of azimuth. Most of the curtain
arrays remained close to the horizon, occasionally rising to 45
degrees and usually always in the NNE to SSE quadrant. The
display, in my area, had almost completely faded at the end of two
hours. I did note some foggy like displays at approximately 06:00
UTC as I neared my home of Grande Prairie AB.
0401 UTC - (N43.00 W084.30) - Clinton County, Michigan
Comments: A nice display, often seen only as an arc across the
north, but at times developing rays and curtains. The activity was
almost entirely within 20 degrees of the horizon, often within 12
degrees of the horizon.
0430 UTC - (N53.18 W113.49) - Leduc,Alberta,Canada
Comments: Display began with a general glow from NW to E.Gradually
discrete arcs developed , then bright rays in the NW.Overall colour
greenish .
0450 UTC - (N44.25 W085.50) - Roscommon, Michigan
0458 UTC - (N45.75 W090.00) - Winchester, WI
Comments: nice to them again...was cold outside so I didn't wait
them out
0526 UTC - (N46.50 W084.50) - Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, Canada
Comments: I noticed the glow to the north while playing hockey on a
backyard rink. It was bright enough to be seen from within the
city, even with floodlights beaming down on the ice. I then drove
to the outskirts of town to take some photos and arrivd just in
time for a nice substorm with lots of movement and detail at around
5:50 UTC. Photos at

as/
0538 UTC - (N42.75 W084.00) - Burton,Michigan
Comments: great display covering entire northern horizon from east
to west..just green in color though still a great sight.
0553 UTC - (N50.26 W104.37) - Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada
Comments: Display stretched from northwest horizon to directly
overhead, mostly greenish-white bands, with one distinct arc.
Could be seen clearly once away from streetlights.
0618 UTC - (N53.25 W115.50) - Banff, Alberta, Canada
Comments: Green glow, no colours Spanning across the sky (from
Constellation Leo to Taurus (06:00 UTC)
0630 UTC - (N45.68 W118.53) - Pendleton, Oregon
Comments: Noticed the display while driving home. Very aactive
green glowing arcs with intermittent rays reaching toward the
zenith. I sped home to set up my camera but it began to fade. I
took two time exposures on film...we will see if I captured anyting
good (there were two meteors during the exposures!) Usually there
are red & violet colors captured on film that are too hard for the
eye to see.
0639 UTC - (N47.15 W119.16) - Moses Lake, Washington USA
Comments: I went out to throw out the trash and saw an arc with
slight movement about 20-30 degrees above horizon. green in color.
0646 UTC - (N57.00 W116.25) - Calgary , AB Canada
Comments: I have never observed something like this before so I
enjoyed every moment. I am not sure if this is normal or requires
any other attention. it was Beautiful!
0736 UTC - (N52.50 W106.50) - Saskatoon
Comments: This is actually a collaboration between my fiend and I.
I saw that there were some northern lights outside at about
2008/03/09 04:00 UTC. There was one pulsating curtain going from
about 70 degrees to about 30 degrees. It was green and moderately
bright.
I looked around the sky and noticed that there were very very faint
lines all throughout the sky. So, I figured that there was
potential for it to be a spectacular show.
I was only outside and watching it for about 20 minutes during my
walk home from the store. But when I got home, I wrote "northern
lights tonight, if anyone's interested" as my MSN name. So that any
of my friends could be informed.
One friend was watching them at the time that I indicated
(2008/03/09 07:36) For him, it was a full sky show, with very
bright curtians and and arcs and rays, wavelike pulsations and
localized pulsations.
I'm sorry I missed the best part of the show.
0745 UTC - (N50.25 W113.25) - Calgary, AB
Comments: I have never ever seen anything like this in Calgary
before. It was so intense and beautiful that I couldn't help but
watch.
0747 UTC - (N47.15 W119.16) - Moses Lake, Washington USA
Comments: before it began to fade away I saw distintive curtain of
green with an occasional ray dancing in and out, now its a diffuse
glow and fading away
0805 UTC - (N45.75 W095.25) - Isle, Minnesota
0806 UTC - (N42.83 E106.34) - Casper, Wyoming
Comments: Early in the night, activity was mainly based on a glow
in the sky, but nearly an hour into watching, ribbons and pillars
were observed. It isn't often one can see them here with this
amount of activity.
1445 UTC - (N62.39 W159.32) - Shageluk, Alaska USA
Comments: Nice to see the Lights this morning. They were "spotty",
not much definition but had definite pulsations.
